”Christianity doesn’t fit into your agenda, it’s a whole new agenda. It does not enrich your life; Christianity is a whole new life.” – Tim Keller, from a sermon called Real Security and the Call of God.
This is a profound truth I have been learning lately. I have to confess I am guilty of trying to fit Christianity into my own agenda, hoping that it would fulfill me. What I’ve been realizing is that Christianity is not meant to “fulfill” a person. God’s desire is to not just fill an empty gap, as so many people say. His desire is to transform the entire person. This happens through sanctification, as Paul points out in his benediction from 1 Thessalonians 5:
Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it. (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 ESV)
So, here’s the challenge: is the desire of your heart to be completely sanctified? Or are you merely trying to fit Christianity into your schedule at your own convenience?
