Preface
Now that I am officially a geek again (being the director of a Digital Media Program officially makes me a geek), I will probably be posting technology related posts more often. I hope to have a good enough balance between different subjects to keep you all interested.
The Relationship Centered Web
Social networking has changed the Web from being centered around content to being centered around relationships. We have seen a drastic increase in marketing through Twitter and Facebook, and now with Google+ making headlines, I’m sure there will be an increase in social marketing through Google.
It has been said that in the near future that Google will adjust their search engine rankings from being calculated purely by servers and algorithms, to including how people interact on Google+. The more your website or product is discussed on social networking, the higher your site will be ranked.
This will probably create a frenzy of loyalty programs among retailers and brands. Companies like Coca-Cola and Pepsi will fight for attention by creating incentives, no longer only for buying, but also for discussing their products online.
I’m not sure how exactly this will affect consumers, but I imagine it will intensify the presence of social networking in our daily lives.
