This is a continuing thought on how obedience transforms us.
Every act of obedience to God brings us closer to who we were meant to be as God’s created beings. We will only fully get there once we join God in his glory, but while we are on this earth we are meant to work toward becoming more and more like the people we are designed to be.
It must be made clear that this is not about salvation (or justification, see Romans 3:21-26; Galatians 2:15-16), it is about becoming righteous (or sanctification, see 1 Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 10). To be justified by God means that we are counted as righteous according to God’s judgment of us. When God declares us justified, we are not automatically righteous. The process of becoming righteous is called sanctification, and is done over time through the work of the Holy Spirit and obedience. So, we are already saved and counted as righteous, but we are in the process of becoming sanctified, which will be completed when we are fully joined with God in eternal fellowship.
As we are becoming sanctified, we are actually becoming more human, the way God intended us to be. Some
May ask, why would we bother with that if we are already saved? My question is, why wouldn’t we want to be more like the people our Creator intended us to be?
I will continue on this topic tomorrow when I suggest some key acts of obedience a Christian must do during the process of sanctification.
