Philippians 2:5-11 is a famous passage that tells about the humility of Christ. This is one of the great themes of Christmas. Jesus came as a humble child, born to a humble young woman, in humble circumstances. There is nothing about the arrival of Christ that is glorifying according to earthly standards.
After Mary was told that she would give birth to the Son of God, she responded with joy and composed the song we now know as “the Magnificat” found in Luke 1:46-55. In it she declares that God is the one who exalts those who are humble and fills the hungry with good things.
Our response to Jesus should be that of thanksgiving for the God who is powerful enough to create the universe, but humble enough to come down to earth in order to save His people.
