The love of God is not demonstrated only when we experience material blessing. The female slaves in the sex trade thanking God for strength to live one more day are able to be as grateful for God’s love as those of us who sit in a comfortable, warm home while we do our devotions.
This is because gratitude is not based on what we experience, but on who God is. God is our redeemer and loving Father. Our gratitude flows from knowing the love of God as He demonstrated it through Christ.
What I am grateful for usually reflects how I feel. However, when I recognize the true source of all joy is God himself and not what he gives me, I will always be grateful, regardless of my circumstances or how I feel about them.
