On July 1, 2018 I will be once again unemployed. Between now and then I am working nearly every minute of every day outside my day job to make sure that I have an income in July. I want to be clear: I will not give up easily and I will not go down without a fight.
My dream is to be a globe-trotting journalist. I want to tell stories. This requires money and connections. My dream is not to have money or status or influence. That is a short-sighted goal. My dream is to do what I love doing and to be able to provide an income for my family while doing it.
I want to go back to the Philippines, and meet up with some of the people I met there five years ago. I want to tell the story about how people are struggling to get themselves out of extreme poverty. In Cambodia, there are thousands of children being sold to sex-tourists. Their childhood and their dignity robbed from them. I want to tell the story about how they are being rescued and given dignified work.
There are millions of people in the world who’s lives would be changed if only their story could be told. My hope is that there would be a few people out there that would watch my movies, and respond in some way.
What I really want? I want to tell stories in a way that demands a response.
I want to be able to say, with William Wilberforce:
You may choose to look the other way but you can never say again that you did not know.
