The second week of advent often has the theme of peace. When Jesus was born, a host of angels proclaimed, “Peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.” (Luke 2:14)
The peace of God is given to those who have found favour with God. Favour is given to God’s children; those who have accepted adoption into His family through Jesus.
What does this peace look like?
The prophecy found in Isaiah 11 promises that the Messiah (Jesus) will come to judge with righteousness in favour of the needy. In other words, if you want to continue to provide for yourself everything that you think you need, Jesus has nothing for you. You will continue to experience restlessness as you chase after a vision for your life that will always be incomplete.
If you recognize that you have a need that you can’t possibly provide for yourself, that need can and will be met by Jesus if you ask for it from him. By allowing Jesus to fill your deepest needs, you will experience a peace that will carry you through all of life’s challenges.
May you discover this week the peace that has been promised toward all those who have found favour in the eyes of God.
