The Blessing

The Lord bless you
and keep you,
make His face shine upon you
and be gracious to you.
The Lord turn His face toward you
and give you peace

Amen.

This blessing is recorded in Numbers 6:24-26. It was first spoken by Moses as a blessing on Aaron and his sons, who were first in the Nazarite priestly order established by God when the Israelites completed the construction of the Tabernacle.

This blessing was placed on the priests in order for them to pass on the blessing of God to all of God’s people. This tradition continues to this day, as it has been spoken in millions of congregations, churches, tabernacles around the world for thousands of years.

To proclaim this blessing upon another person is to claim the title and authority of a priest. This is not to be taken lightly, but it is a title available to all who have said “yes” to Jesus.

To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Over 10 years ago, we started singing this priestly blessing every night with our children. We have claimed our rightful place in God’s kingdom as priests over our children. Our children know this blessing; it is rooted deep within their souls.

May His presence go before you
And behind you, and beside you
All around you, and within you

In the morning, in the evening
