Obedience Makes Us More Human

This is a continuing thought on how obedience transforms us.

Every act of obedience to God brings us closer to who we were meant to be as God’s created beings. We will only fully get there once we join God in his glory, but while we are on this earth we are meant to work toward becoming more and more like the people we are designed to be.

The Transformational Nature of Obedience

In my preparation for the next sermon I am preaching on July 17, I am reading C.S. Lewis’ The Weight of Glory. The quote below reminds us that our hope is in the glory of God, but we do not know that glory fully at once. Just like when we learn to write, we don’t start immediately start writing poetry, or when we start talking we don’t immediately start reciting Shakespeare, we don’t experience the fullness of God’s glory simply by believing in it…

Proclaiming Christ and Him Crucified

This is a continuation of my last post on The Wisdom of Men and the Power of God.

I ended the last post with a question: will what I’m doing help in proclaiming Christ and him crucified? I would like to offer a few insights into how I know whether or not my work is proclaiming Christ.

How do I respond to success?

Not the Wisdom of Men, but the Power of God

I am not one to minimize the importance of education. This should be obvious by the fact that I am a Bible College student and will be an instructor next year. I believe God gave us each other so we could learn together. What I become concerned about is when Jesus Christ and him crucified is not at the center of our education and discussions about God…

How Social Networking is Changing the Web

Social networking has changed the Web from being centered around content to being centered around relationships. We have seen a drastic increase in marketing through Twitter and Facebook, and now with Google+ making headlines, I’m sure there will be an increase in social marketing through Google…

Casting Crowns

On Monday evening Lynn and I went to see Casting Crowns in Calgary. I really enjoyed the show. I did a bit of filming, as I was encouraged by some of the things Mark Hall…

What is Your Hope?

From the sermon I preached at Linden Alliance Church on July 3.

Have you ever thought to yourself, if only…? If only I could have a different job, or have more vacation time. Or maybe you can’t wait for things to be over with so you can move on. Maybe you are in high school or college and things will just be better once you are done school. Maybe your kids are at an age that makes life difficult and you think it will get better once they get out of this stage…

Life Like A Roller Coaster

When my wife and I came to Prairie Bible College last year, we knew God was up to something beyond just going to school for a few years and getting a degree. As the year went on, I began to think about how everyone has different paths and some look quite straight and consistent, and others look more like a roller coaster. I observed other students, and saw how some, like a fellow pastoral student, who are there to get a degree and go back home,…

Faith that Works

What is the difference between faith that works and faith that doesn’t work?

Below is an outline to a sermon I prepared for my Introduction to Pastoral Ministry class last semester. Maybe I’ll preach it one day. I welcome your feedback.

James 2:14–17 (ESV):…

Prayer as a Demonstration of Love

It is when we regularly approach our Heavenly Father on behalf of others that we demonstrate our sincere love for the church and our firm dedication to the work of God.

At the end of our prayers, we often say the words, “in the name of Jesus we pray.” Saying these words is not only claiming the power of Jesus in our prayers, but it is also making the assumption that we are praying the very words that Jesus would pray…

Grace is a Gift

This last Sunday, I preached at Wimborne Alliance for the second time. This sermon was a continuation of the last sermon I preached there. Here is a small excerpt from the sermon I preached yesterday. This part is…

An Open Letter from Rev. Fletcher Matandika

What a wake-up call! That’s what I thought as I was reading an open letter from Reverend Fletcher Matandika addressing the North American Church. I strongly encourage you to read the entire letter yourself, so…
