A common part of our prayers is gratitude. This is appropriate, as we could never express our gratitude in this lifetime for how much God has given us. Psalm 9:1-2 is one example of such a prayer.
However, I wonder what we are thankful for. Just this morning in my prayers I found myself thanking God for all the blessings in my life: a warm home, a peaceful sleep, a great school, and a loving wife and wonderful children. Then I thought about the place I will be visiting in June. The slums of India do not have much “evidence” of God’s blessing. At least not in the way we often think of blessing.
So, I stopped and as part of my prayer I acknowledged that even if all those things were taken away, I would still have much to be grateful for.
